David M. Holley, 76, started enjoying the wonderful benefits of Heaven after meeting his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.
He was born in Watseka, IL to wonderful parents, the late Marlowe E. and Jessie Geneva (Taylor) Holley on a cold day in early March during WWII.
Growing up in Kentland, David attended Kentland Public Schools graduating in 1961 and received his associate degree in Business Administration from Fort Wayne Commercial College. This is where he met his future wife, Charlene Ross.
David and Charlene were married in 1964 after which had four children: Jeffrey W. (Betsy) of Dallastown, PA, Michael S. (companion Shonda) of Indianapolis, Jerrod W. (Heather) and Lisa M. (Andy) Cree both of Lafayette. Surviving are six grandchildren, Brett, Jordan and Jacob Holley, Aaron Austin, Madison and Justin Cree. David retired from Lafayette Savings Bank on Christmas Eve, 2007. Most of his working career was in the credit and collections field.
One of his joys in life was being an active member of Community Reformed Church and through the years serving as Deacon and two terms as Elder and on both the Missions and Service and Life Committees.
David was a proud member of Dayton Masonic Lodge #103, Scottish Rite Indianapolis Valley, Frankfort York Rite Bodies, Merou Grotto, Dayton Order of Knights of Pythias, Lafayette High 12 Club, Newton Low 12 Club, Tippecanoe Co. Past Masters Association and Hope Chapter #5 Order of Eastern Star.
He most enjoyed Christmases with family, summer vacations with the Cree family, Sunday dinners and watching football with Michael on Sunday afternoons, coffee with visits from Jerrod, Friday lunches at the house with Lisa, attending grandchildren’s games, band concerts and plays, gardening when he was able, mowing and being with the love of his life, Charlene, his soul mate and loyal companion for so many years.
Surviving besides his immediate family is a sister, Dixie Wissman.
Visitation will be from 3:00 until 6:00 pm on Monday, September 16 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd Lafayette with an Eastern Star Service starting at 6:00 pm and a Masonic Service to follow. Funeral Services will be held at Community Reformed Church, 2501 S. 18th St Lafayette at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 17 with Pastor Dale Buettner and Pastor Wesley Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowview Cemetery.
