David L. Vanaman, 74 of West Lafayette passed away at 6:38 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at IU Health Arnett.
He was born March 4, 1944 in Rensselaer to Virginia M. (Weston) Vanaman of Kentland and the late Virgil L. Vanaman.
After high school Dave graduated from Moody Bible Institute.
His marriage was to Glenda M. Lewellen on March 7, 1965 and she survives.
Dave served as minister for over 30 years, which began with the founding of the Otterbein Baptist Church in 1972. Alongside ministry he owned and operated Dave’s Shoppe-At-Home Carpet Service.
He was a member of Calvary Church, but every day was Sunday with Dave. His passions in life revolved around his love for the Lord, devotion to his wife and family, establishing a strong Christian foundation in his home, and ministering to all. He did this through Sunday school, men’s groups, mission trips, and daily interactions with any who would listen. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s functions and gardening.
Surviving along with his mother and wife are two children, John Vanaman (wife Amber) of Lafayette and Joanna Vanaman (partner Vance Campbell) of Lafayette; two brothers, Roger Vanaman (wife Lynn) of Fowler and Tom Vanaman of Lafayette; a sister, Beth Justice (husband Richard) of Kentland. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jerah, Jaedan, and Jaleigh Vanaman, Ella and Ethan Bills, Kelsie and Cameron Hipps, as well as two great grandchildren.
Dave was preceded in death by a brother, John “Jack” Vanaman and two sisters, Marlene Eckman and Patricia Harrington.
Friends may call from 12 Noon until the time of the service at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Calvary Church, 310 Kalberer Rd. West Lafayette, IN 47909. Rev’s Rick Butler, Daniel Berry and Ben Beck will be officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute in Dave’s name to Calvary Church at 310 Kalberer Rd. West Lafayette, IN 47906.
