David L. Brutans

Date of Death: December 27, 2009

David Lynn Brutans, 49, of Chalmers, died at 6:16 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Aug. 27, 1960, in Lafayette, he was the son of Jan and Phyllis Vaughn Brutans of Lafayette. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1978 and went on to play baseball for Heidelberg College in Ohio.
On Feb. 2, 1998, he married Teresa Farmer in Lafayette, and she survives.
Mr. Brutans had been a supervisor at TRW Automotive the past 21 years.
He was a member of TRW Rec. Association and its golf league. He had also played in several softball leagues and was an avid sports fan, particularly Purdue athletics, the Cincinnati Reds and Buffalo Bills. He enjoyed playing golf, playing Washus and cooking for others, and was known as “the grillmaster.” As a youth he was on the 1977 Colt World Series Championship team.
Surviving with his wife and parents are a daughter, Amanda Brutans of Lafayette; three sons, Jordan Brutans (wife: Amanda) of Lafayette and Brandon Ball and Justin Ball, both of Chalmers; and two sisters, Susan Dismore (husband: Rex) and Sherrie Wheeler (husband: Chuck), both of Lafayette.
He was very excited about the birth of his first grandchild, Keaton David Brutans. He was a loving husband, great father and loved his dogs. Also surviving are his mother- and father-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909. Service 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, the Rev. Greg Eberhard officiating. Interment will follow at Chalmers Cemetery in Chalmers. Those wishing may contribute to the American Cancer Society.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the Brutans family on the passing of Dave. My brother Steve called me with the news. I grew up around Dave and was always the tag along kid since I was 4 years younger. They all nicked named me "Weasel." I will always remeber the many Y basketball games as well as over Christmas break ,Dave getting the key to old Longlois school and going there to play ball. Just know that your family is lifted up in Prayer by me, my wife and our Church family. I know dave touched many a life, including my own. God Bless

I was so sorry to read of the passing of Dave. My husband Ralph worked with Jan at General Foods for several years and I worked with Susan Dismore in the Group Department at Lafayette Life.

I was out of town and didn&t read about the passing of your father until today. I remember him coming in for parent conferences; he was a very nice man. I could tell that each of you was special to him. My sympathy to you and the rest of your family.

I&m deeply sorry to hear that Dave has passed away. I know that your love for him was one of a lifetime. I only had the opportunity to meet Dave a couple of times, but it was obvious that he was a fine upstanding person who loved you dearly. There is nothing that I can say or do to ease the pain of your loss. I&m hopeful that by dropping you this note, it brings some comfort. I will be unable to make it to see you in person, as Jesse&s wedding rehearsal was the 30th, and his wedding is today on New Year&s Eve. My god be with you during these trying times of change.

Our daughter MacKenzie Hurst is friends with Jordan and Amanda. In the last couple years we have enjoyed getting to know Jordan. We are trully sorry for his loss!!! Please let him know he is in our thoughts and prayers, as is his whole family. Love Kirk and Becky Hurst and family.

You proudly fought this illness called cancer so very bravely and straight on.
Only knowing you myself for a short time I admired you love for life,family & friends.
I loved hearing you & Bogie talk of you softball days and your friendship. I tell your family now that I indeed know your pain as my Bogie left us will Dave fought his battle. So now Bogie will be waiting to greet "his Friend" at the gates of heaven. Please draw strenght on how brave he was and how at peace he is now.

Jan, Phyllis, Sue, Sherrie, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Dody called and told me and we agreed that it seemed like yesterday when we all watched them playing softball. Chuck, Dave, Dody and I bowling on that late night league. Those are good memories. I am so far away it seems like everybody is still the same as they were back then and I&m often surprised when I come home to run into somebody and see how they&ve changed. They are probably surprised at how I&ve probably changed. Dave was a great guy and an excellent athlete and I&ll always remember him in a softball uniform. Take care.
