David Anthony Poelstra, age 70, died December 18, 2020 after a brief illness. Dave was born in Lafayette, Indiana on December 26, 1949. He was the son of the late William and Eleanor Poelstra. Dave attended and graduated 8th grade from Lafayette Christian School. He attended Christian Reform Church where he received his Eagle Scout Award. He then went on to Lafayette Jefferson high School where he had a successful athletic career in track, basketball, and football. He was a part of the record setting mile relay team that won city and sectional championships his senior year of 1968. Dave then studied at Purdue University and earned his Bachelors Degree from Ball State University, where he played football and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He went on to obtain his Juris Doctor from Indiana University of Indianapolis. He practiced law for 44 years and was the former owner of Poelstra Title Company. Dave met and later married the love of his life, Deborah (Andrews) Poelstra in August of 1972. Together they have four children, who he loved, adored, and dedicated his life to.
Finding joy in every moment of life was one of Dave’s many strengths. He was the kindest and most compassionate man, always with a smile on his face. He cherished time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Dave enjoyed watching and participating in many sports, but he had a deep love for the game of golf. He made many lifelong friends on the golf course, and always found opportunities to hit a few holes. In life, and as a human being, he was an Ace. His chuckle will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving along with his wife, Deb, are their four children, Andrew Poelstra of Lafayette, Darcy (Jacob) Knott of Carmel, Joshua (Swati) Poelstra of Dubai, UAE, and Ashley (Brady) Claxton of Shelbyville. Also surviving are a brother, Stan (Nancy) Poelstra, and a sister, Cheryl (Bruce) Parker, all of Lafayette. He is also survived by a brother and sister in law, Bob and Bonnie Hockema. He will be sorely missed by his six grandchildren, Xavier Knott, Gisele Knott, Charlize Knott, Caden Claxton, Chloe Claxton, and Carson Claxton.
