Professor Emeritus Christoph J. Neugebauer, 85
Christoph J. Neugebauer, 85, of West Lafayette, died at 8:40 AM Monday, August 27, 2012 at Indiana University Health in Lafayette.
He was born April 21, 1927, in Dessau, Germany, to the late Franz and Emilie Leiberich Neugebauer. He immigrated to the United States in 1947.
He received his PhD in Mathematics from Ohio State University in 1954.
On August 30, 1958 he married Helen Hurych in North Plainfield, NJ. She died April 7, 2006.
Dr. Neugebauer was Professor Emeritus from Purdue University where he spent 56 years in the School of Mathmatics retiring in 2010 at the age of 83. During his career Dr. Neugebauer published over 70 research papers including a paper that was just submitted and accepted for publication last week, titled “”Two Weight Orlicz Type Integral Inequalities for the Maximal Operator””.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Center, American Mathematical Society, United States Chess Federation and Brant Beach Yacht Club. Christoph was an avid tennis player, enjoyed playing chess and racing sailboats.
Surviving are three daughters Ann Marie Ackermann (husband Dieter) of Germany, Kathleen Neugebauer of Maryland, Jacqueline Klinker (husband Ron) of Indiana; two brothers Gerald Neugebauer (wife Margaret) of Albany, NY, Wendell Neugebauer (wife Sheila) of Ballston Spa, NY and two grandsons Alexander and Dennis Ackermann.
He was preceded in death by a sister Gisela Woltermann and a brother Constantine Neugebauer.
Visitation will be 5PM to 7PM Friday, August 31, 2012 at Soller-Baker, West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway W., West Lafayette, IN 47906 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM Saturday, September 1, 2012 at St. Thomas Aquinas Center, 535 W. State St., West Lafayette, IN 47906 with Fr. Patrick Baikauskas officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
