Charlotte L. Howells

Charlotte L. Howells, 68, of West Lafayette, died at 8:40 PM Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus where she had been a patient for a few days.
She was born July 3, 1943, in Huntington, WV, to the late Stephen P. Zelnak and Martha L. Maloney Josephs.
She graduated from Marshall University, and for 30 years was in administration at Home Hospital serving as Director of Admissions, Corporate Compliance Officer and Director of Nursing among other titles before retiring in 2006.
Charlotte was a member of Church of the Blessed Sacrament where she was on the Parish Council, Building Committee, was an usher, and on the 50th Anniversary Committee; Lafayette Rotary where she was very active in the Back Pack Program; Alpha Xi Delta; and was a board member of the Crisis Center, Visiting Nurse Home Health Service, Leadership Lafayette Graduating Class; and was a United Way Executive.
Surviving are a son Jefferson F. Howells (wife Jennifer) of West Lafayette, a daughter Kelly L. May (fiancé Darren Dawson) of Fishers, three brothers David M. Josephs (companion Ann Reitz) of Crownpint, NM, John D. Josephs (wife Trish) of Houston, TX, Stephen P. Zelnak Jr (wife Judy) of Raleigh, NC, five grandchildren Kyle, Keagan and Alexander Howells, Alejandra and Thalia May.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Michele Howells.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Friday, February 10, 2012 at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway W, West Lafayette, IN 47906 with Funeral Mass at 10:00 am Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 2224 Sacramento Dr., West Lafayette, IN 47906. Fr. David Buckles officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to the Rotary Club Back Pack Program C/O Lafayette Rotary Club, PO Box 3923, West Lafayette, IN 47996-3923.

I&m so sorry to hear about Charlotte&s passing. I was out of the country when I heard. I worked with her in her final years at St. Elizabeth. She was a very kind lady. She was patient and willing to learn about computers when many others were not. She taught me new ways to look at how I did my job and communicated with others around me. She even had me over for dinner after she retired and continued to send greeting cards. I will really miss her. She was a great influence with her dedication to serve others, even when she wasn&t strong enough to do so.

I am so sorry to learn of Charlotte&s death. Charlotte and I shared many wonderful times together when we were growing up. I just loved to visit her in W.VA. She was a classy lady who won&t be forgotten. May God give all of you His perfect peace. We will be making a donation in her honor.

So very sorry for the loss of your mom. I wish I could be there to help you celebrate her life. She was one of the ""cool"" moms growing up, never minding that there were tons of kids all over her house. I really admired the way she was always there to support both of you, including this past Alumni Band Purdue Homecoming, where I got to see her again. I couldn&t believe that she still had, and was wearing, her old ""band parent"" sweatshirt. Of course, that was so typical of your mom, that it shouldn&t have surprised me. Please know that my heart goes out to both of you and your families.
