Charles R. Runda

Charles R. Runda, 80, of Lafayette, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Lafayette, and was the son of the late Lewis and Loretta Nelson Runda Sr. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1949.
On June 20, 1959, he married Dorothy Straw in Lafayette, and she survives.
Mr. Runda retired from TRW in 1987 after 32 years.
He attended Harvest Chapel and was a veteran of the Navy, serving from Aug. 1, 1949, to July 31, 1953. He enjoyed playing golf and gardening.
Surviving with his wife are four sons, Mike Runda (wife: Vickie) of Fort Wayne, Mark Runda (wife: Victoria) of Lafayette, Brad Runda (wife: Tracy) of Anderson, Todd Runda (wife: Gloria) of Seville, Spain; two brothers, Tom Runda (wife: Becky) of Florida and Lewis Runda Jr. of Lafayette; and three sisters, Pat Thomson (husband: Gordon) of Connecticut and Dorothy Smith and Lewetta Haag, both of Florida.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Jeanette Strawsma.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909 with Pastor Joe Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Those wishing may contribute to the American Cancer Socity.

I did not know Charles very well; however, we met a few times in the recent months. I wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to your family and reflect on a moment he and I shared. I will remember the day that he told him how much he loved Jesus. It brought tears to my eyes and gave me goose bumps thinking about how excited and enthusiastic he was about his faith. He knew that he would soon be called home and wanted to share that love with me. Although I am saddened for those left behind in his passing, I am very happy that he finally got to meet his Father face to face. I know that he must be smiling ear to ear now. From the short time we met, I could tell he was a very sincere man and kind man. Please accept my condolences and I hope that you may find peace.

We wish we could come to the Funeral but both of us are not able to drive that far anymore I send my prays and having a Mass said at St Jude . may he rest in peace Elizabrth and Floyd wilson

My deepest condolences to all the Runda family on the passing of your loved one. I was a Linnwood graduate as well as Lafayette Jeff. Maybe you remember me from The First Reformed Church there on 14th St. I also worked at Schaafs and later became a Pharmacist. I pray that Our Lord will comfort you and give you peace in the knowledge and assurance that Charlie is now with Lord.
