Charles Kirkhoff Lodde, long-time soda fountain jerk and Owner of the Original Frozen Custard, passed away October 20th at his Frankfort home following a short battle with cancer. He was born January 25, 1952 to the late Richard E. and Charlene K. Lodde in Lafayette. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School (class of ?70) and Purdue University (class of ?74).
He married Stephanie Winter November 10, 1973 at St. Boniface Church, she survives.
Surviving along with his wife Stephanie are their three beautiful daughters, Rachel Brouwer (husband Allen) of Fort Wayne, Megan Lodde (fiancé Andrew Schwint) of Boston, MA, and Jill Greives (husband Tim) of Radolfzell, Germany. He was “Papa Lodde” to his two granddaughters Haley and Abigail Brouwer. Brothers Rick (wife Paulette), Tom (wife Jodi), and Bill (wife Kathy), brothers-in-law Brian Winter (wife Robin), Brent Winter (wife Cindy), Bruce Winter, sister-in-law Jennifer Lohmeyer (husband Jay), and many nieces and nephews from Lafayette.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Sigma Chi fraternity, long-time member of the National Ice Cream Retailers Association, member and past President of National Soft Serve and Fast Food Association, Indiana Alpaca Association, Suri Network, and AOABA. He enjoyed fulfilling his life-long dream of being an alpaca rancher for the past three years.
Kirk will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, Hawaiian shirts, and “unwillingness” to mix custard flavors. His greatest gifts were his commitment to his family, his elaborate story-telling, and the ability to put a smile on everyone?s face.
Memorial visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm Wednesday, October 24 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with funeral services at 10 am Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909. Father Dan Gartland officiating.
The family requests that any donations be made to Community Cancer Network or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in lieu of flowers.
