Charlcie Ann Whitaker

Charlcie A. (Ledford) Whitaker, 92, of Lafayette, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at IU Health Arnett Hospital.
She was born February 16, 1932, in Piper, AL to the late Robert Vance and Eva (Toney) Ledford. She was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. On March 25, 1951, she married William C. Whitaker at Star City Church, formerly Lafayette Pentecostal Church.
Charlcie was a devoted mother and grandmother that loved having her family gathered around the table. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and fishing. Charlcie was a founding member of Star City Church where she served in many capacities. She was a faithful friend and mentor to many. She loved to be in the house of the Lord if the doors were open and “Lord Willing” she was there.
She was employed by Arrow Burial Vault as a secretary for 18 years. She was also the principal at Temple Christian Academy for 10 years. Along with her husband William they owned and operated Whitaker Rentals.
Along with her husband, William C. Whitaker, she is survived by 2 children, Deborah (Greg) Bolinger, William J. Whitaker, both of Lafayette; 6 grandchildren, Chad Correll of Lafayette, Elizabeth Whitaker of Puyalup, WA, Hannah Bolinger of Kokomo, Grason Bolinger of Crown Point, Ryan Whitaker of Lafayette, and Lauren Whitaker of Lafayette; 3 greatgrandchildren, Brock Correll of Lafayette, Gentry Fields, and Paisley Fields, both of Kokomo; and 3 sisters, Dauna Holmes of Lafayette, Mildred Switzer of Bellville, IL, and Patricia Nelson of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eva Ledford; a son, Marcus J. Whitaker; and 5 siblings, Mary Helen “Helen” Triplett, Joseph Benjamin “JB” Ledford, Robert Vance “RV” Ledford, David Ledford, and Evageline Goswick.
Memorial contributions in Charlcie’s name may be given to Missions, at Star City Church, 201 Veteran’s Memorial Pkwy East, Lafayette, IN 47905.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Star City Church, 201 Veteran’s Memorial Pkwy East, Lafayette, IN 47905 with Pastor Eddie Robinson III officiating.
Interment will follow at Spring Vale Cemetery, 2580 State Rd 25 North, Lafayette, IN 47905.
