Carolyn Sue Allen, 59, of Lafayette, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, peacefully in her home. She was born in Lafayette at Home Hospital on August 22, 1954. She graduated from Harrison High School in 1972 where she was involved in their choral program. Mrs. Allen was a stay at home mother and housewife since marrying her high school sweetheart in July of 1972. Carolyn loved children and ran a day care out of her home when her son was young. She loved NASCAR and was a Jeff Gordon fan. She enjoyed garage sales and collecting NASCAR and Coke memorabilia. Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Donald Wayne Allen; son, Darrick Wayne Allen (wife Heather); two brothers, Roger Dale Gregory of Otterbein (wife Julie) and Hurl Robert (Buddy) Blackburn of Idaville (wife Nancy); a sister, Mary Kay Wright of South Carolina (husband Monte); a brother-in-law Dean Allen (wife Sharon) and a sister-in-law, Denetta Allen. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vernie Lee Blackburn; her uncle Hurl Jackson Gregory, Jr. (who raised her after her mother's death); her brother, Jack D. Gregory, grandmother, Jessie Mae Wood; her mother-in-law Delsia Allen, and her father-in-law D.W. Allen. Visitation will be 9-11 AM Tuesday August 19, 2014 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel , 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909, with the funeral Service beginning at 11:00 AM also at the Lafayette Chapel. Burial will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens following the service.
