Carolyn M. Roth died peacefully at home on June 23, with Jim, her husband of 60 years, at her bedside. For several years Carolyn bravely made the best of the gradual weakening and limitations that her body gave her.
Carolyn was born in Gary, Indiana on February 11, 1942, to Lon and Marie Moore Cushman, who are deceased. Her brother Ken Cushman also is deceased.
Carolyn attended St. Andrew Grade School in Indianapolis and made many lifelong friends, including her husband, Jim. She attended Scecina Memorial High School, Indianapolis, and she enjoyed the annual class reunions, and sharing emails and Facebook with classmates. Carolyn found new friends everywhere she went.
On September 4, 1965, Carolyn married Jim (James F.) Roth. She was active in both close and extended families. On August 6, 1966, their daughter, Marie Claire Roth Henderson was born. Marie, who was a dedicated educator and artist, died after a nine-year fight with cancer.
Carolyn worked as a secretary and teacher. She was a member of the Battle Ground Town Board for nine years.
Carolyn is a 55-year member of St. John Episcopal Church. She was active in the Lafayette Art League and Purdue Women’s Club. She collected snowmen, displaying them in a floor length glass cabinet and almost every ledge in the house.
Donations may be made in Carolyn’s honor to Scecina Memorial High School in Indianapolis or to St. Jude’s Cancer Research Hospital.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 pm on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette, IN 47909. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at St. John Episcopal Church, 600 Ferry St. Lafayette, IN 47904 with Fr. Joél Munoz officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow View Cemetery in Lafayette.
