Carolyn K. Martin, 80, of Lafayette passed from this life into the arms of her Savior at 7:08 pm on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 16, 1937 in Lafayette to the late Neal and Alice (Swaim) Phillips.
Carolyn’s first job was as a soda jerk at Goodnights Drug Store then she went to work for Glucks, Dorothy’s Bridal Shop and then the Posie Patch working as a seamstress whose specialty was bridal dresses.
Her marriage was to William D. Martin in August 21, 1954 in Lafayette, he preceded her in death on April 30, 2007.
Carolyn attended Dayton United Methodist Church and loved attending WALLA Classes, 50 year member of Hope Chapter OES #5, Mother advisor of Rainbow For Girls Lafayette Chapter 7, Lions Club, Waterstone Lunch Group, the Mary Lou Donuts 10:30am Group and was past president of the Jolly Jills Home Extension Club. She truly loved spending time with her grandsons, was a loyal Purdue fan especially basketball, was a Master Gardner and enjoyed cooking, sewing, helping with the FOP Fish Fry’s and served on the Home Hospital Fair Committee.
Surviving are two daughters, Paula Riley (Paul) of Forest and Martha Martin of Lafayette; a son, William “Bill” Martin (Michelle) of Columbus; Two Grandsons, Jacob Martin (fiancé Laura) and Luke Martin and two step grandchildren, Pat Riley (Stacy) and Julie Pilkey (David). Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Robert “Bob” Phillips.
Friends may call from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 3:00 pm on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with Eric Schneider officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette.
Those wishing may contribute in Carolyn’s name to the Lions Club Seeing Eye Dog Program or the Charity of the donor’s choice.
