Carlyle “Cy” N. Gerde, 62, of Battle Ground, died unexpectedly at 8:18 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, in Springfield, Ill.
Born Oct. 22, 1946, in Long Beach, Calif., he was the son of the late Clifford and Miriam Wood Gerde.
He received his bachelor?s degree from Purdue University in 1967 and his Juris Doctor degree from Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington in 1970.
On July 4, 1976, he married Priscilla “Pris” Murphy in Martinsville, and she survives.
Mr. Gerde was a partner at Hanna, Gerde and Russell law firm and had practiced in the Lafayette community since the early 1970s.
He was president of the Carriage Museum of America and was on the board of directors of the Carriage Association of America. He was on the board of Five Points Fire Station, was a member of the Battle Ground Lions Club and John Purdue Club, and was a past board member of Tippecanoe County Historical Society. An avid Purdue Sports fan, he enjoyed traveling and theater.
Surviving with his wife is a brother, Winton “Win” Gerde of Romney.
