Carla J. Jones

Carla J. Jones, 76, of Lafayette passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at St. Elizabeth East.  She was born August 5, 1940, in Muncie to the late Thomas Carlton and Idris Irene McCray.  Carla was a graduate of Muncie Central High School in 1958 and Ball State University in 1962.  On July 28, 1962 she married Alvin Jones in Muncie and he survives.   Carla was a music teacher, english teacher and home maker in Indianapolis, Kokomo and Lafayette.  She was a member of Ninth Street Hill Association, former member of Indiana State Teachers Association, Ball State Alumni Association and Ball State Parents Associaton Board.  For many years she shared her passion for marching bands and drum and bugle corps.  Carla was marching band auxillary instructor at Kokomo Haworth and Lafayette Jefferson High Schools.  She was an accomplished saxophonist and was a member of the Indiana All State High School Concert Band.  For many summers, she played in the Lafayette Citizens Band.  Carla enjoyed quilting, sewing, traveling, bird watching and cooking.  She volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for over 10 years.  She was especially proud to be a grandmother and spent as much time as she could with Reegan and Grace.  Surviving along with her husband are her children Andrew A. Jones of Frederick, MD, Anna A. (Daniel) Helle of Solon, IA, grandchildren Reegan and Grace Helle.  Also surviving is her brother Bruce McCray of Yorktown and a sister, Joyce (Larry) Peden of Moffat, CO.  Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd.  Service will be at 4:00 pm on Sunday Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel.
