Beverly A. Berwick McDowell

Beverly A. Berwick McDowell, 72, of Lafayette, died at 11 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at her residence.
She was born July 10, 1938, in Darlington, to the late James and Virginia Phebus Carroll.
She graduated from Colfax High School on June 14, 1957.
She married Harry Berwick, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1988. She later married Jim McDowell, and he preceded her in death in 2001.
Mrs. McDowell was a floral specialist at Pay Less from 1979 until retiring in 1998.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are children, Mark L. Berwick (wife: Yvonne) of Sewell, N.J., Beth Mantegna of New Jersey, and Angela Varissimo (husband: Tim) of Lafayette; a brother, Lennis R. Haase (wife: Barb) of Lafayette.
Private services will be held.

I&m so sorry to learn of Bev&s death. We both graduated with the class of &56 from CHS, and were roommates, along with Mary Lou Waddell, on our senior trip. I have fond memories of several of us loading into her old ""junker"" and heading to Frankfort for the high school baseball games our senior year. In recent years, we&ve become email buddies, keeping in touch of some of our other classmates, and both mourning the death of Helen Smith this year. The class reunions that we had in later years were the direct result of her planning and organizing. Bev was always a happy go lucky person, finding humor even in difficult situations. I&ll miss her greatly.
