Betty J. Day, 94, of West Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Westminster Health Care.
She was born on August 10, 1930, in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Thomas and Mary Gene (Hershey) Gifford.
Betty graduated from Westfield High School in 1948 and worked there as the office secretary the following year. On June 24, 1949, she married Robert E. (Bob) Day in Westfield, IN. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2017. Betty was a homemaker and avid supporter of Bob throughout his career in teaching, coaching and high school administration. Together they attended many, many sporting events. They enjoyed travel throughout the United States in their camper and in later years with Kiwanis Club. Betty and Bob worked at the Wild Bird Shop for several years after Bob’s retirement.
Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church and active in various church organizations and women’s circle. She and Bob managed the coffee/donut ministry for thirty years.
Betty volunteered at Trade Winds of Northwest Indiana and as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed bowling, crafting, Purdue sports, playing bridge, camping, and gardening. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons, Larry (Martha) Day of Cave Creek, AZ, and Thomas (Janet) Day of Lafayette, IN, Daughter, Jill Cox of Lafayette, IN ; grandchildren Bethany Amundson (Justin), Nathan Day (Amaris), Bailey Day, Michael Day (Kaeli) and Elizabeth Day (Zach Volmering), as well as nine great grandchildren, Lola, Thalia, Lucia, Aurora, Lucas, Eisley, William, Jonah and Matthew.
Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Hoock and son-in-law, Rich Cox.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, Rev. Dr. J. Philip Klinger officiating. Entombment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens West Lafayette, IN.
