Barbara Ann Thayer Fraser, 98, of West Lafayette, died Saturday, February 15, 2025, at home. She was born May 27, 1926 in Lafayette, IN. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Lillian Mehegan Thayer. She graduated in 1944 from Delphi High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1952. On December 3, 1948 she married William S. Fraser. He was Director of Radio & TV at Jefferson High School. He died May 29, 2004.
She was a charter member of Church of the Blessed Sacrament where she was a member of the Ladies of Charity. She was also a member of the Purdue Women’s Club, Purdue Women’s Golf, Elks Women’s Golf and Caring Paws.
Surviving are her three children, William Fraser (Cris Halter) of Indianapolis, IN, Deborah Babcock (Tom) of Fair Haven, NJ, and Betsy Caputo (Paul) of Parkland, FL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren William (Katherine), Sarah (Nicole Nota), Ann (Matthew Grabowski) and Thomas Babcock, Erica (Ryan DeWalt), Kerry (Harold Hamann), and Elizabeth Caputo. She leaves five great grandchildren, James and Wesley Babcock, Frances and Jane DeWalt, and Charles Grabowski. She was preceded in death by two sons, John Scot and Scott Thomas.
She was also thankful for her circle of loving and caring friends that brought her joy (and sweets), especially Garrett, Rosie, and Jo. For many she was a moral compass. She taught us how to be strong not through words, but by the way she handled life’s ups and downs, and she did all with unassuming grace.
