Betty Ann Dozier, 85, of Lafayette, passed away at 8:40 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at IU Arnett Health.
She was born May 28, 1932 in Knox, Kentucky to the late Gilbert and Chesney (Johnson) Hampton.
Betty Married Rev. Ernest Dozier Jr. on December 24, 1949 in Harlan, KY and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1990.
Betty was a professional homemaker and took on the role of a Pastor's wife with all of her heart. Together they would help to establish several churches from the ground up. Constantly a servant of the Lord, she would always relish the opportunity to spread God's word through her actions. She led Sunday School for many years instilling God's word in the hearts of countless children. She loved leading women's retreats and hosting Bible study groups. In God's light is where she felt the most at home; whether it be through scripture, song, or sermon. Later in life she worked as a companion caregiver for several elderly ladies. She was a member of Elston Family Church. She also enjoyed crafts, canning, quilting, and especially spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Surviving is a daughter, Patricia Gaskin and a son Gary Dozier both of Lafayette, six grandchildren, J.R. Gaskin (Trina), Rick Gaskin (Kara), Matt Gaskin (Kristy), Andy Dozier, Brad Dozier and Carmen Slate (Jeremy) along with nine great grandchildren known to Betty as “my little darlings” and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Chris Dozier and 4 brothers and 6 sisters.
Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Soller-Baker Funeral Homes, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Elston Family Church at 2424 Old US Hwy 231 S. Lafayette, IN 47905 with Pastor Randy Skidmore officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute in Betty’s name to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
