Barbara E. Allen, 80, of Lafayette, died at 11:23 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Home Hospital.
Born March 14, 1929, in Green Hill, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Hillis Edgar and Hazel Wagoner Shoaf. She graduated from Pine Village High School in 1946.
On March 23, 1947, she married Albert “Gene” Allen in Rainsville, and he preceded her in death March 17, 2007.
Mrs. Allen worked at Arni?s in Market Square for 26 years and then worked at Food Finders Food Bank for several years, and was retired.
She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and enjoyed going to the senior center to play bingo. She had previously bowled on various leagues in Lafayette. She also enjoyed listening to country music, playing cards, reading, crocheting and spending time with her family. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving are her children, Dave G. Allen (wife Kimberly), Linda K. Thorpe (husband: Tom) and Michael B. Allen (wife: Janice), all of Lafayette, and Rick W. Allen (wife Rosemary) of Indianapolis; brothers, Glenn Shoaf (wife: Mary Lou) of Danville, Ill., and Phillip Shoaf (wife Jana) of Lafayette; and sisters, Ida Roberts (husband: O&Neal) of Forsyth, Ill., and Kay Plunkett of Lafayette.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother, Edgar Shoaf; a sister, Iva Taylor; and a son, Terry R. Allen.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service 2 p.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 2400 Edgelea Drive, Pastor Mike Vauters officiating.
