Barbara C. Mitchell, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, August 24th at Mulberry Health. She was born in Lafayette in 1942 and graduate from Jefferson H.S.in 1961.
She worked at St. Elizabeth hospital as a Unit Secretary for ICU, PCU, 2 Central from 1988 until 2000 at which time she retired to help care for her grandchildren.
She studied at the John Herron school of art where she gained a love for art that continued throughout her life. This included oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting. She also enjoyed crocheting, and photography and excelled at any creative task she attempted.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Mitchell, of 58 years and two sons, Kevin (Michele), who lives in Jacksonville, FL, and Jim (Erica) who lives in Lafayette, 4 grandchildren, Jim, Linsey (Jason), Kyle, and Aubrey, and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Anita (Alton) Hines of Lafayette, Lyle (Karen) Emmons of Deland, FL, and Jim (Janice) Emmons of Lafayette.
