Barbara A. Mitchell, 86, of Lafayette, died on February 26, 2021, at Golden Living Center in Muncie.  Barbara passed away peacefully of natural causes.  She was born in Lafayette, on April 3, 1934.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph G. and Violet (Spitler) Preston.  And by her brother Charles H. Preston (wife, Zona) and by her sisters Betty J. Hines (husband, Frank) and Mary M. Preston.

She is survived by her son Ron (wife Lisa) Mitchell of Muncie.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who were very important to her:  Bev (husband Del) Harper of West Lafayette, Harriett Deboy of Lafayette, Shelley and Cindy Preston of Northglenn, CO, Alton (wife Anita) Hines of Lafayette, great niece Tracy Davis of Lafayette, and great nephew Brad (wife Amy) Harper of West Lafayette, and their children Melissa and Nolan.

Barbara graduated high school at East High in Denver, CO.  Early in her career she worked in the banking industry and later for Purdue University where she retired with 26 years of service from the Accounting Services Dept.  After retiring, she volunteered at the Tippecanoe County Public Library for several years.

Barbara was a great cook and enjoyed her family get-togethers.  Her main hobby was water color painting. She also enjoyed reading, listening to Tom Jones music, birdwatching and was very fond of animals in general.

Visitation will be from 12 – 2p on Thursday, March 4th at Soller-Baker Funeral Home in Lafayette, with a private burial service to follow.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Almost Home Humane Society of Lafayette.
