It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Frederick Kruggel III, who departed from this world on June 2, 2025, at Indiana University Hospital. Arthur was 83 years old.
Arthur (Art) was born on February 19, 1942 to Arthur Kruggel Jr. and Virginia Streff in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Loyola Academy(1960) and Harvard University(1964) where he studied history before returning to pursue a career in his hometown of Chicago. He married Claudia Cantafio in 1968 and together they had five sons, Arthur Frederick (Fritz), Adam Joseph, Bartholomew Joseph (deceased at birth), Alexander Joseph (deceased, laid to rest in Hawaii) and John Bartlet. He later moved with his family to Lafayette, & West Lafayette, Indiana in 1990, where he continued to live until his passing.
Art was a beloved, respected member of the community and was known for his kindness & generosity. He had a passion for his family, his church and was an avid reader who enjoyed working with and spending time with his wife.
Art served 4 years in the Illinois Army National Guard after graduating from Harvard, worked for several decades in the credit card banking industry before co-founding a small auto and furniture fabric repair business in Lafayette with his beloved wife Claudia. Art and Claudia continued to work together serving local customers and businesses throughout the Lafayette area for the past 20+ years.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Claudia, adoring sons Fritz (Susan), Adam, and John (Heidi), grandsons Amaury, Benjamin, and Gabriel, granddaughters Willow, Eden, and Kathleen, sisters Kathy (Evans), Kim (Gregory Alexander), and Karla (Powell), among many other loving family members and friends. Art will be deeply and forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 13 at 11am at Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Lafayette, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel-to-Towers Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project in Art’s memory.
