Arnold Eugene Haupt, 84, of Lafayette, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Indiana Veterans Home. He was born November 22, 1928, in Warren County, to the late Ecil and Ruth Lappin Haupt. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On May 15, 1948, he married Virginia Cole in Rockville and she survives. Arnold owned the Marathon Station on Teal road in Lafayette for a few years and had retired from Purdue University. After retirement he worked for the Purdue golf courses as a player's assistant. He was a member of the American Legion Post 11, enjoyed playing golf and was an avid sports fan especially Purdue and the Chicago Cubs. Surviving along with his wife, Virginia are two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Johnsons (husband: Carl) and Susan Kay Ricks (husband: Joe), both of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Shelly Gray, Jason and Jennifer Johnson, Daniel and Lisa Ricks; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Donald Gene Haupt; and two brothers, Delmar and Robert Haupt. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Boulevard Lafayette, IN 47909, with Chaplain David Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Those wishing may contribute to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
