Anna Belle Phillips Straley, 85, of Hillsboro, Ore., died at 1:43 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at IU Health Arnett. She was born May 11, 1925, in Oelwein, Iowa, to the late Paul and Gertrude Flanagan Oakes.
On March 7, 1943, she married Howard S. Phillips in Lafayette. He preceded her in death in 1997.
She was the School Nurse at West Lafayette High School for many years until retirement. She had worked for Dr. Bridge and Dr. Underwoood in Lafayette. She volunteered at the Rosewood Alzheimers Unit in Hillsboro.
Surviving is a son, Cody G. Phillips (wife: Connie), Hillsboro; and a sister, Pauline Spark, Paradise, Calif.
Also survivng are her grandchildren Jon P. Phillips, Christopher H. Phillips, Calvin B. Phillips, Cody D. Phillips and Cathryn A. Phillips, great grandchildren Hayley B. Jacobs, Jenna R. Phillips, Emily M. Phillips, Claire M. Phillips, Michael C. C. Phillips, Grace O. Phillips and Neil E. Phillips.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel 1184 Sagamore Parkway West. Preceded in death by daughter Anne Phillips and two sons Michael S. Phillips and Jon O. Phillips. In lieu of flowers memorials to Aloha United Methodist Church , 2270 SW 198th Ave. Aloha, OR 97006.

My heartfelt sympathies to the Phillips family on the loss of your mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Phillips was the school nurse at WLHS when I was a student, and she responded to us there with ingenuity, relaxed humor and a customized care that has been a model for me for decades (and I am not in a caregiving field). Please know that for many of her students, she will always remain with us as a bright light.
