Angel C. Hernandez, 84,
of Lafayette, IN, died at
7:56 PM Tuesday November
22, 2011 at St. Mary Health
Care after a long illness.
He was born July 9, 1927,
in Guayos, Cuba, to the
late Santiago and Asuncion
Silva Hernandez.
He graduated from La Progresiva Business
School and attended Havana University. On
June 12, 1954 he married
Lens Castilla in Cuba she
survives. Before immigrating
to the United States he
was Business Manager of
all Presbyterian Schools
in Cuba sponsored by the
Board of National Missions
of the United Presbyterian
Church in the United States.
He and his family arrived
in Lafayette in August of
1961 and his !rst job was
with the CPA o””ce of C. D.
D?Aust. Angel was Assistant
Treasurer and Manager of
Investment Accounting and
Collateral Departments at
National Homes Acceptance
Corp. Mr. Herandez then
worked for Lafayette Saving
Bank and retired as Executive
Vice President. He
formerly was Vice President
of Soller-Baker Funeral
Homes. He was a member
of Central Presbyterian
Church where he served as
an Elder, Trustee and on the
Board of the Foundation.
Angel was on the Board
of Directors of Lafayette
Savings Bank, Friendship
House and Greater Lafayette
Museum of Art. He was a
member of the Lafayette
Chamber of Commerce and
worked in the accounting
department for several years
as a volunteer. Angel was a
Treasure of Junior Achievement
of Greater Lafayette
Board for 23 years. Angel
was a former President of
Tippecanoe Chapter of
the National Association of
Accounts. Mr. Hernandez
had been Chairman auditing
committee for the YMCA
building fund campaign.
In 1998 Mr. Hernandez
received the Americanism
Medal from the Daughters
of the American Revolution
which is the highest
and most prestigious award
bestowed by the DAR upon
a naturalized American
Citizen. Angel enjoyed community
service and had a a
very friendly personality,
excellent sense of humor
and a very contagious smile.
He was blessed with the love
of his family and many special
friends and lived a very
religious and happy life.
Surviving along with his
wife are a son Diego Hernandez
wife Lydia of Indianapolis
and 4 siblings in
Cuba and 3 Puerto Rico and
several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1:00 to
3:00 PM Monday at Soller-
Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400
Twyckenham Blvd.
Funeral Service 3:00 PM
Monday at Soller-Baker
Lafayette Chapel, Rev. Dr.
Je# Cover o””ciating. There
will also be a Memorial service
at Central Presbyterian
Church at a later date. Interment
will be at Tippecanoe
Memory Gardens. Those
wishing may contribute to
the Alzheimer?s Association,
St. Elizabeth Hospice
or Central Presbyterian
Church.
