Alice Louisa Black, 93, of Lafayette passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette. Alice Louisa Black, 93, of Lafayette passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette.
She was born in St. Clair, IL on March 26, 1925 to the late Albert and Elvera (Ohlendorf) Graul. She was a 1944 graduate of Mascoutah High School in Mascoutah, IL. She married Chester E. Black in Mascoutah on January 20, 1946. He preceded her in death. Alice was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, 60 year member of the church choir and worked as the church secretary for 9 years.
Alice enjoyed cooking and was a volunteer for Home Hospital for 10 years. She was also a member of Hope Chapter #5 for 50 years, Past President of Tippecanoe Home Extension Homemakers Club and the Edgewood Club.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Dan) Tate of Colfax, Kathleen (Melvin) Amundson of Ovieta, FL, Albert (Carol) Black of Columbia, SC, Bradley (Cynthia) Black of Lafayette, David (Nancy) Black of Lafayette, and Janet (Stephen) Baker of Battle Ground; 22 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Carol (Benjamin) Rasch, and Nancy (David) Wambold, brother-in-law, Phillip Cole and sister-in-law, Fran Graul all of Mascoutah, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; her parents Albert and Elvera Graul; and her brothers, Curt Graul and Albert Graul, Jr., sisters, Edna Cole and Pearl Ballot, brother-in-law, Charles Ballot and and sister-in-law, Helen Graul.
Memorial contributions in Alice’s name may be given to Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1526 South Eighteenth Street, Lafayette, IN 47905.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette, OES Hope Chapter #5 service 7:30 pm. Visitation is one hour prior to an 11:00 am service, Friday, April 13, 2018 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1526 S 18th St, Lafayette, IN 47905 with Rev. Dr. TJ Jenney, PHD, officiating.
Interment will follow at Meadow View Cemetery in Lafayette.
