| Marjorie G. Morris, 91, passed away August 22, 2013 at 12:27 pm at University Place. She was born
July 14, 1922 in Woodmere, New York to Dorothy S. and Edwin H. Guiterman. She moved at age four to Wheeling, West Virginia, and at age eight to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she graduated with Honors from Shorewood High School in 1940.
Marjorie attended Goucher College (Baltimore, MD), and completed the final two years at Northwestern University, where she graduated from the Medill School of Journalism (1944), and was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority. After college she wrote advertising copy for Gimbel’s and Schuster’s Department Stores in Milwaukee. She married Ralph L. Morris on December 11, 1949 in Milwaukee, and moved to Lafayette. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2008.
Marjorie’s memberships included Pickwick Club (President and Secretary), Temple Israel and Temple Israel Sisterhood, YWCA’s Newcomer and Cosmopolitan Clubs, two bridge clubs, Lafayette Art League, and the Lafayette Country Club (where she was an active participant on the bowling team). She served enthusiastically as a Girl Scout leader. She volunteered weekly at the Home Hospital Surgery Waiting Room for 37 years. Her hobbies included domestic and international travel, bridge, gardening, knitting, reading, and writing a daily journal. Year-round, both indoors and out, she followed a lap-swimming regimen in pools, although she also loved swimming in Lake Michigan and the Gulf of Mexico. She was an avid fan of Purdue football and the Chicago Cubs. Winters in Longboat Key, FL found Marjorie just as involved with activities and people as she was in Lafayette. She had a unique gift for making friends of all ages, from all over the world. Her radiant smile always lit up the room.
Marjorie is survived by her children Kathy Busch (Husband: Tom) of West Lafayette; Betsy Applebaum (Husband: Bob) of Plano, Texas; and Chip Morris (Wife: Karen) of Jacksonville, Florida. Her seven grandchildren continued to be the light of her life in her final days: Jonah Busch, Washington, DC; Kyra Busch, San Francisco; Laelle Busch (Husband: Antonio Marsala), Florence Italy; Ellen Rasch (Husband: Jay) of Newport Beach, CA; Emily Applebaum, Newport Beach; Sarah and Joe Morris, Jacksonville, Fl.
Her family expresses its gratitude to the staff of University Place and Great Lakes Caring Hospice for all they did.
